Tucson and Oro Valley 17th October

We were met yesterday by Lynda and Dave who drove us to their house in Oro Valley, just north of Tucson.  As soon as you leave the airport, you are greeted by masses of cacti.

Lynda and Dave have a huge house, with wonderful views from the terrace, and we drank coffee or tea on it this morning and watched humming birds taking their fill of nectar from the feeders.  I must admit, I had no idea there were so many different kinds of humming bird until I checked the images in a booklet.  They are beautiful, some sitting on the edge of the feeders, while others hover or flit.  Sometimes they become rather aggressive and chase off other intruders.

This morning (Friday) the two Daves went off on bikes for a trip round the area, while Lynda and I took a local walk and spotted a wide variety of desert vegetation, including many types of cacti.

This afternoon we took a walking trail in the Catalina State Park - again, lovely views of the mountains and vegetation, although we got wet feet crossing a stream which had been swollen by rains today in an area which doesn't always have running water.

As there was rain this afternoon, we had thought we mit not be blessed with a good sunset.  Incorrect assumption.
