I woke up last night to a massive clap of thunder. That was all I heard, as I went back to sleep, but the others told me it rumbled on in the distance for quite a while!
We drove into the city this morning and drove around the university area. There were several marching bands getting ready to play and the university football (not soccer) team was about to play.
We moved on to the university art gallery and enjoyed a couple of hours there. The ground floor had all modern pieces, while the upper level was showing European masters' religious pieces and other more modern pieces, including a Jackson Pollock and a Mark Rothko.
The afternoon was spent at Old Town Artisans, a group of people who sell craft goods in their "shops" around a central cafe area with a musician playing. The whole thing gave off a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, although some of the items were a little pricey.
Evening meal was at the Congress Hotel, a great meal in a buzzing almosphere, where we began with a table outside and ended by taking our plates and glasses inside as the first drops of rain fell. Lightning had been flashing across the sky for about half an hour and we felt a little threatened!
We decided to start the walk back to the car when the rain reduced somewhat, but were soaked by the time we arrived back at the car. Apparently there is rarely rain at this time in Arizona, so we were unlucky. Still the day was dry so we didn't complain.
